The 2011 Futurity was a great event! First of all, we were at a great new site, right in the center of the country. Fonner Park complex in Grand Island Nebraska is a brand-new $42 million facility, constructed specifically for convention and livestock events, right in the middle of the country. We were one of the very first events to use the new buildings, and the very first alpaca show there.
As has been the case for the past 14 years, the highlights of the weekend was the Futurity Show and Sale. The Futurity Sale featured 75 of the finest alpacas from top farms across the country. And of course, the granddaddy of them all, the Futurity Show featured the highest quality alpacas from top breeders across the nation, competing in the year’s toughest show. More details about the Futurity Sale and Show can be found in the specific sections of this web page.
Also new for 2011 was the first-ever Small Breeders Challenge Alpaca show. This AOBA sanctioned alpaca show was specifically for farms owning 20 or less registered female alpacas. The Challenge was held in the same building, on the same weekend, but ran entirely separately from the Futurity Show. This a fun and competitive event, where smaller farms from across the country saw just how their breeding programs stacked up against farms of similar size. Color and Reserve Color Champions received the new Small Breeders Challenge trophy, designed by the same artist who does the Futurity trophies. Check out the special Small Breeders Challenge section of this page for more details.
